Short Description

Oloolu Masquerade is one of the most powerful masquerades in Yoruba land, Nigeria and Africa at large and comes out during the celebration of the Oloolu festival every July.

Business Information

Oloolu Masquerade is said to have originated from the ancient days in Ibadan where one of the great warriors named; Ayorinde Aje, went to war at Ogbagi, Akoko, Ondo State, fought their undefeated war masquerade named Oloolu, won it and then took it home as its prisoner.

While heading to Ibadan from Ondo, the wife of the person bearing the masquerade refused to continue the journey and they cut off her head and added to the costume of the masquerade.

Whenever the Oloolu masquerade is out, no other masquerade is allowed to be out and women too are expected to be out of the way.
