Ukum local government area in Benue State has its administrative center in the town of Sankerra and is one of the least famous LGAs in Benue. It is mainly occupied by the Tivs and has lots of mineral deposits.
There is a crude salt industry located in one of the 13 wards in the local government which is being used to produce unrefined salt for consumption and for medical purposes. They are richly endowed with fertile agricultural soil which they use to cultivate food crops like groundnut, maize, citrus, and guinea corn in a very large quantity.
